Is this what I need to dimple the barrel for use with a lo-profile gas block?

Yes, I have the .750 and .625 SLR dimpling jig, they work great.  If you will be dimpling a nitride barrel, get a good bit.  Don't try it with one of those cheap Home Depot bits.  If it's a stainless barrel, the cheap bits will cut through like butter.  It works better on the nitride barrels if you have a drill press but I use my 12V cordless drill all the time.

Just purchased one of these from SLR. Get the carbide drill bits if you are drilling nitride barrels, trust me. Had to make a second trip as the titanium bits literally did not make more than a mark no bigger than a period.

I have the BRD dimple jig, but don't use it anymore.  Either I just screw the set screws down to make the  o  o   marks  and then take a punch to the center of the circles and make the small dent, then drill from there.

I mostly pin my GB now.

Also I don't like using the Jig anymore because I always want to check my depth constantly and with a Jig covering your work its in the way.  I guess you could just start with it then remove it.

BlackLight - you can check to dimple depth just fine with the Jig installed - just blow out or vacuum out the chips.

Best thing about this Jig is that, when used properly, there is no doubt that the gas block hole and barrel gas hole will be aligned.

OP: just make sure you use the proper dimple distance (0.400 or 0.450 inch) as dictated by your gas block construction,
i.e. read the Jig directions.

The SLR jig is the Shizzle! It works great, so long as you use a decent bit (get one rated for STEEL).

Finally got to use my SLR jig the other day. It is a keeper!
