My first 2 AR's were SP1's...I was shooting SP1's before there was such a thing as A2's. I have never been convinced that the A2 is a better rifle, at least as a "survival" piece for civilians. The SP1 has simpler/more rugged sights, is lighter and omits the FA, which is really only needed for military/full auto applications. The only modern improvement that I'm sure that I really like is the A3 upper improvement for modern optics. SP1's rock!! Seeing yours makes me want to build another one! |
Nice rifles desertmoon. All three of them.  My SP1 really isn't one. It's my early Sporter Match HBAR (R6601) with one of the M16 uppers and furniture that I picked up in EE last month. Color is nearly dead on, so from a distance it really looks like a genuine SP1. But I'm going to put the M16 kit on a Stag lower when Bushmaster gets around to sending me the 16" lightweight barrel I have ordered. I'll mount that on an SP1 upper and convert my 6601 to a lightweight carbine like you have pictured. Then I'll have to order another Stag to mount my HBAR upper and furniture on. So I'll be going from one AR to almost instantly three.  What's not to love about it?

| Thanks for the compliments!!! I love graywolf's M203 mock up.....I have always love the 203 handguards!!!! I am a huge SP1 and Sporter 2 fan....though I do prefer the FA I am thinking of building up an Old School AR-15 as discussed in the "Old School Build" thread. Maybe slicked....maybe not....haven't decided. |
