Is there enough material on an SP1/M16A1 barrel to rethread if it is cut to a 16" Disipator style barrel?

I have a very similar project in the norman74 supersecretsquirrel skunkworks at the moment.
Oh, and I think most 'smiths chop to 16.5" to get a bit more barrel out past the gas port.

I'll give you a sneek peek into the mongo001 SUPER-SUPER-SECRET skunkworks. It is near completion and will be ready to test fire soon. Just need a round trip ticket to Area 51.

Well, it appears there is plenty of material to thread. Looks like I might just have to get those gears a turnin' in my head thinking about my next project.
