I am thinking about buying a SP-1 upper. The seller has told me the upper is marked CMP B and that the upper came from a 1978 vintage SP1. the seller told me the upper has no markings on it as to Rifleing or caliber .223 vs .556. any ideas if this would be safe to shoot .556 in? I thinks its a 1/12 twist but im not sure any help is appreciated.

"C MP B" indicates early 70's. Its chambered in 5.56 and yes, its a 1:12 twist.

And it's a fully chrome lined barrel.
