I just bought a slick side SP1 barreled upper off the EE.  It does not have a rear sight assembly, an ejection port cover, or a bolt carrier group.  In shopping for those parts, I have developed a few questions:

1)  I know that you usually install the ejection port cover before you install the barrel.  Is there a way to do it on a barreled upper without removing other parts?

2)  The only place I can find an A1 bolt carrier group without the forward assist serations is Fulton Armory for $170.  Is that a decent price and/or are there other venders that I haven't found?

3)  I haven't found a link for how to install the A1 rear sight assembly.  Anybody got one?

Thanks in advance for the help.

1)  Yes, slabsides are real easy to do this to.  The A1's are also easy if you know what you're doing.

2)  You can find colt originals on the EE or GB.  They were very rare and most SP1s and M16s BCGs came with the serations.

3)  Download the manual found on this site.  It's a .pdf file.

You can get the port door on but I recommend getting 2 of those tiny C clips so you can keep working after you lose the 1st one .  If it jumps off it will fly a mile and instantly vanish.

+1

Except I recommend 4 or 5.  Last one I did took 4 to get it right.

I don't have it in my hands yet, but it looks like I'll insert the rod from the charging handle end of the receiver and install the little clip last (instead of from the barrel end with the clip already attached).

In thinking about that, it occurred to me that launching the little clips might be a problem, but it's good to hear it from folks with experience.  I'll definitly order extras.

Odds are 100% that if you do it enough you'll lose one. But it is easier than pulling the barrel.
