my buddy asked me to look over his AR. WOW!, its an old Colt SP2, made in 1974 we need to know roughly what its worth its built with the 20 A2 bbl but its an early A2 upper receiver. Meaning A1 rear sight, brass deflector and forward assist. Sweet setup!!!! i love it and dont care what it is or worth but....... well hes one of those guys.... if you know what i mea. LOL |
Correct me if I'm wrong but I believe there is no such thing as a SP2. Most likely it's a SP1 and it's against the rules to ask for an opinion on worth in this forum. Check Gunbroker and you'll get a ballpark idea. |
Yes there is an SP2 Just another one of Colt's "well, we've got these obsolete pieces the Army doesn't use any more, so let's stick 'em on the next batch of AR15s" pieces. |
| My friend has a Colt AR15A2 Sporter in the same configuration that you describe, with tear drop fwd assist, except no brass deflector, and the serial is SP2xxx I don't know his serial number or even how many digits other than the SP2 and his is a 1986 or 1987 model. 1974 is a fairly early SP1. I won't say what it is worth but will say my friend bought it new for $450. Makes you want to cry almost doesn't it! |

heres a sporter II on GB www.gunbroker.com/Auction/ViewItem.asp?Item=101567635 |
| The AR15A2 Sporter II came in two variations for the upper. The model R6401 had a tear drop forward assit with no case deflector, the R6500 had the round A2 style forward assist with the integral case deflector. No chance of a 1974 production date on a Sporter II, they were mid to late eighties production. |
