I started to plan my SPR type rifle tday, and here is the parts list so far
DD RIS II rail system (Or knights URX III) B5 Sopmod Stock 18" WOA 1-7 barrel Don't care which stripped lower, probably armalite Upper- Not sure yet, something basic DD LPK, DD BCG Troy low pro gas block Standard gas system parts YHM brake Standard trigger until I get a Geissel Matech rear and not sure which front, either an ARMS Polymer or maybe a Troy, i don't really care. Optics- Vortex PST 2.5-10 MRAD (will be my 3rd Vortex Scope) American Defense Mount This rifle would be similar to my carbine besides the barrel assembly. Everything would be the same as my block II (ish) rifle. Krylon to finish it of course. |

Here's where I got mine, I couldn't find them in stock anywhere else... I'm from Houston and when I went to pick mine up in person three weeks ago they said they had ~100 in stock so I'm not sure how many they will have left.

I'm also looking at this barrel. Looks to be pretty good for the money. Also looking at the DD barrel, it seems a bit lighter than the others, not sure how/if I'd like that. http://www.midwayusa.com/product/492851/daniel-defense-barrel-ar-15-556x45mm-nato-s2w-contour-mid-length-gas-port-1-in-7-twist-18-hammer-forged-chrome-lined-chrome-moly-matte-pre-ban |

I built a block II(ish) rifle also and am planning on doing a SPR in the near future. On my block II ishhh build I used a DD 12.0 lite rail...which is somewhat lighter than the RIS II.
For the SPR I would suggest looking into it. When I do mine I'll probably switch this rail to the SPR and get the RIS II to make my block II build no longer an (ish) lol. If your wondering why I didnt use the RIS II originally its because I knew the style of AR I wanted when I was building it...I just didnt realize it was a Sopmod block II rifle so I never noticed the thread otherwise I would have gotten the right rail
Otherwise I'm a fan of the parts your using! edit: are you going to use a bipod? |

My only complaint is that mine has some small rust spots on it after 3 years of use hunting, but that won't be a problem since you plan to refinish it. In terms of accuracy, I am the limiting factor but I can get under 1 MOA from a bench most of the time with factory mk262. My rifle also wears the 12" DD Lite Rail and an adams arms piston system. If I were to do it again I would go for the 14" DD Lite Rail with DI. Here's a pic of the rifle all dressed up with all the tactical shit I could fit I'm currently running the rail naked except for BUIS, harris, and sling adapter.
Here is a pic from stickman of an 18" wearing the 14" rail Here |
