Pretty new to ARFCOM posting but am a long time reader. Just built an 18" SPR. I am still in the air on a scope. I am thinking a Burris Fullfield 2-7x35. I know its no Leopold or NF but its what I can afford now and it holds zero. Thoughts, comments??? Here is the rifle its going on...ps-the M4 just happens to be in the phone...

I have a Burris 2-7X fullfield II with the bplex reticle, along with 2 other fullfields. They have excellent glass. The bplex reticle is pretty much dead on out to the 400 yard hold over. The 500 is a little off, but nothing that cant be compensated for. I like this scope because there are no knobs to turn, the glass is excellent and the price is hard to beat. I thing I gave $125 or something similar when midway was running a sale a few years back. Two of the 3 fullfield scopes I have are in Burris pepr mounts, the other is sitting on a CZ452 22LR.
However, that said, I too am kind shopping around for something a little more specific to the 5.56 for longer range stuff. Currently under consideration are: Fullfield TAC30 3-9x Leatherwood CMR ACOG of some sort I want something compact, has dedicated and marked hold over points. At least 4X. Lighted reticle not needed. |

May I suggest a Primary Arms 4-16x44. Marshall discounts the ADM mounts when purchased with one of his scopes. Lilttle of $300 for the ADM Recon Extended Mount and optic (you will need the extended mount)
Weaver Grand Slam Tactical 3-10x40 Mildot with mil turrets. They go on sale @ Midway for $299 all the time. You will need a good cantilever mount, though. Be an extra $150 for the ADM Scout mount. http://www.midwayusa.com/viewproduct/?productnumber=598484 Lastly, SWFA has a kit special for their SS 3-9x40 FFP mildot. For $599, you get the optic, ARD, Butlers and Bobro mount. Killer dea! http://swfa.com/SWFA-SS-3-9x42-Tactical-Riflescope-Kit-P50225.aspx Runs the gammit from $300 to $600 and they are all good quality optics and great mounts. ETA: What is the MFG of the front flip up sights? |

Thanks all for the advice! It seems as though I spent too much on the gun and do not have $300 - $500 for an optic. CRAP! So I am thinking the Burris 2-7 is for me right now.
The upper is an SPR upper from Wilson Combat. I live in NW Arkansas and they are right down the road from me. I enjoy supporting the home town boys! The upper originally had a FF tube and I added the Yankee Hill Light Rail for pretty cheap. |

Not a bad choice, for the money.
Pro - Nice illuminated reticle - Tough as nails - 1-4 range is surprisingly useful - Nice price Cons - Heavy - Glass is OK, but not as good as ones costing 2-3x more - Did I mention it was heavy? Honestly, I've now upgraded to ACOGs, Accupoint, and EoTech for most of my stuff. but the Millett DMs-1 is excellent, for the money. And the 1-4 range is surprisingly useful. Quoted:
Millet dms1 with a Burris p.e.p.r. mount. I couldn't be happier with mine. |

I've also got a SPR build (16" Mk12 Mod 0ish) in the works and am looking for an inexpensive scope to start with. I like the Vortex Viper but they don't have the BDC reticle anymore. SWFA had the burris full field II 2-7 Tactical on sale for 150 or so also, it looks like they sold out but they are still around. The Burris Full Field II E1 has a cool looking reticle for not much more, you may want to look at that. Nikon and Leopold have some nice offerings for $300-500 but my problem is if I'm going to spend that much I may as well save for something really cool like a Mark 4 MR/T.
Because I've never shot an AR with a scope and have no idea what I want as far as magnification (2-7, 3-9, 1-4, 3.5acog) I'm thinking of starting cheap with this BSA2.5-8x36 just to get an idea then repurpose it for a 10/22. Plus I can use it to learn how to use Mil Dots. Edit: Give this Redfield a look, its made by leopold and seems to be well received. |

| a while back i bought a Simmons Aetec 14x scope for my Weatherby 223. Great scope for the money. Think it was around $180. I believe the new models offer Mil Dot too. I own a Leupold, Bushnell Tactical 6500 and ACOG. Honestly, I can't tell a difference in clarity when comparing to the Simmons. |
