Started out with a Palmetto State Armory stripped "blem" lower when they were on sale here a while back. As usual, "blem" on a PSA part meant "above-average". Once I got the lower in and saw that it was perfect, I decided there was no time like the present to build my next AR-15. I bought a PSA Magpul ACS-L lower build kit and got to work. I have to say, I ended up with a rifle I really like, but I think the ACS-L stock is my favorite part on it. It fits!!! I've built a couple of AR's now using the PSA lower build kits, and I really like them, except for the triggers. The first one I got was really creepy, heavy, and gritty, but eventually smoothed up to something tolerable for a CQB trigger. This last one was just obscenely bad, and I decided early on to invest in some kind of decent, after-market trigger group.
Spent the next couple weeks (between paychecks) agonizing over the barrel. My decision points were: a.) "less-than-heavy-profile" b.) 1:8 twist c.) 18" SS barrel d.) mid or rifle length gas. I kept coming back to the BCM 18" SS410. I basically built the gun around the barrel, as I wanted to end up with something that was fairly accurate without being terribly heavy, but still pleasant to shoot, and pleasing to my eye. For the rest of the furniture and miscellaneous parts, I ended up with: Stripped upper / dust cover / forward assist – from Surplus Arms & Ammo. (Good fit with the PSA lower) Midwest Industries Gen2 SS15 YMH Phantom 5C1 flash hider Gas tube and YHM low-pro gas block BCM BCG and Gunfighter Mod3 charging handle – all courtesy of Bravo Company USA. Tango Down 'shorty' QD verticle grip Magpul MBUS Gen2 front and rear sights RRA National Match 2-stage trigger group Vortex Crossfire II 4-12x44 BDC scope and PA extended mount – from Primary Arms. Still waiting on USPS for the scope and mount, but here is the base rifle, via crappy cell phone pic: http://i136.photobucket.com/albums/q171/Joshy_Tree/SPRish.jpg Put it all together well under my budget, and once Christmas shopping is done, I'll upgrade to an American Defense QD scope mount and a nice bipod. I'm loving it so far! |
