Someone wants to sell me an SP1 with serial number of 08151 and says it was made in 1965. I tried to look at the serial number guide but I can't figure out the date of this rifle. Is this worth $1500? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Serial number is more likely SP 108151. +1. Are you including the "1" from "SP1" in the serial number? If so, according to this database, that gives the rifle a manufacture date of 1979. If the serial number is indeed 08151, then that gives the rifle a manufacture date of 1966. |
| A few ways to tell if it is early is the flame supressor. Early (1964-65) should be duckbill style. Later in the 1970's would be the M16A1 Style that looks like a bird cage. Early would have a grayer appearance as well. The early probably would not have the trap door stock and the later would. The 1964-65 would probably also have the lightweight edgewater buffer. |
