Can the flash hider on the SR 556 be removed? If so, does the barrel have standard AR threads? I would like to add a Phantom FH to mine.

Yes, the OEM flash suppressor can be removed and yes, the pitch and thread are the same.

I found the tool that comes with most 4" grinders works well for removal. You insert the flat metal from the front and use a wrench to turn it. as fare as threads its normal

Since I don't have a 4" grinder can you explain/show?
