What kind of quality can I expect from this guys? How to they compare to Stags?

I've been doing research for a couple months know on my first AR purchase and I thought I had my mind set on Stag (I sill may have my mind set). But Lately I've been thinking about a mid-length. I dont want a RRA, and CMMG seems to expensive, but these Sabre Defense rifles seem really nice.

Thanks in advance fellas

I have a Sabre midlength and it I have been very impressed with the quality! I would put Sabre right up there with the likes of Colt and LMT. They are the best quality for the money on the market right now in my opinion. If you decide to go with Sabre you will not be disapointed!

+1

I have one as well.  It is extremely accurate and has no issues.  The original bolt carrier had a sheared carrier key screw and they shipped a new bolt and carrier immediately.  I replaced it with a Colt bcg (OK, sometimes I like the Kool-Aid).  It runs like a Swiss watch.

ETA:  Thanks LoneWolfUSMC! I was cracking up when I saw what I actually typed. Swiss watch, of course!

das028 , as to the 'steel' question, it's machine gun rated steel.  It works great for semi-auto too!

Did you mean a "Swiss Watch" or a "Swatch Watch"?

Can anybody tell me how they compare to Stag rifles? Components used, specs, price, etc....

As far as quality the Sabre is equal if not better. Stag does not offer a midlength barrel so if you are going the non NFA route the midlength in my opinion is the better option. Comparing the components used in both the Stag and Sabre rifles, I would put the Sabre above the Stag.
Edit to add, price of Sabre is about equal to Stag or less if you go the assemble yourself route.

I noticed on there website they use "MIL-B-11595 Vanadium Alloy" in their barrels. Can somebody tell me WTF this means?

Another thing, do they offer there carbine models in 1/7 twist?

Here you go: Barrel steel

Best middi for the money: BMC (not available at the moment) or Sabre. SDI / Talon Arms Middi

I know nothing about their products, but they could stand to upgrade the folks answering their phones.  The first lady I spoke with (in Nashville) didn't know whether or not they built the ARs there in Nashville...they do. (I go by their offices in my commute which is why I was asking).  The second person didn't seem to know what a carrier key was and had to relay my question to a third person.

I was asking if they could possibly stake a carrier key for me for which I would happily have paid a few $ for the service.  I would've preferred someone with the proper tool (MOACKS) do it than to whack on it myself.  They refused, which is certainly their right....but they probably won't be seeing in business from me in the future.

I bought my midlength barrel direct from SDI.  Great to deal with, sent it right out with UPS, followed-up with a telephone call.  Even did a few things extra fo me (knock fsb pins loose so I could install the ff rail easier, leaving off the FH, etc).  Chuck and Grant were great.  Next time I will buy a complet rifle from them.

The quality of the barrel is superb.  It is light and strong.  Heated up and no whip to pseak of.  Finish is great and durable.

I bought a Sabre Defense midlength upper from PK firearms.  Great quality.  However, it looks like it has some small chips inside the upper receiver.  I'll have to watch it.

What brand of upper reciever was it - PK will build on CMT, etc.

+1, from what I understand, PK will install Saber Barrels in CMT uppers and CMT uppers have a history of having crappy finish that can flake off

They also have tolerance issues.  I've seen too many that would cause EOTechs to cant.  We verified that it was in fact the upper that was FUBAR and not the EOTech by mounting the same EOTechs on LMT and KAC rails with no issues.

I tried to build an upper using a CMT the other day and the barrel (Colt, which was pulled from another upper that ran fine) would not fit all the way into the upper.  Additionally, the rear lug wouldn't even fit into the intended lower.  It wouldn't have mattered, the holes wouldn't have aligned anyway.

I've had plenty of CMT uppers work fine, but too many in the past year that were faulty.  I won't use them anymore.

As for SDI, I have a middy barrel that I can't wait to build.

I got a PK upper with:
CMT M4 upper
SDI 16" middy 1/7 with M4 barrel extension.

Best upper I've ever owned.

From their website, it advertised it as a Sabre Defense Midlength upper, So I assume the upper reciever is Saber defense also.  I could be wrong.  BTW, I'm not saying SD suxs, I'm just saying mine has this particular "flaw".  Other than that, the rifle is a tack driver, cycles smooth and all of my sights are straight.  I just put it on a new Bushy lower I bought from a gun show a couple weeks ago.  Need to go shoot it again soon.

I got an SDI middie upper from PK and talked directly to them and they had said that they in fact are SDI barrels on CMT uppers. I had no complaints though, the one I got is excellent! I have had problems with CMT uppers in the past though, it always seemed to be the cardinal forge ones. I know that is just coincidence.
