I've never seen a 1971 SP1 in person.  A2 upper, A2 grip, HBar 16" with a plastic stock. Nice example.

Anybody email him to ask some questions about his 'original' beauty?

I think to make it the Über rifle, it would need a laser or glass breaker.  Maybe at least a bottle opener.  I figured that was the most ridicules configuration I could cobble up in a short time.

The 'Man from U.N.C.L.E" I think that show gave me the firearms bug.  I wish I had the heart to chop up my P38 like theirs was.

BTW, who had safes 30 years ago? We all still had gun racks in the back window of the pick up back then.

When I was younger I would have said the rifle matched that L-19, but now I don't move as fast as I used to, and besides, I flew E-2's...

ETA: Can you tell I'm jealous, and not of the rifle...

Gads!  I flew E2's for my first tour, then ended up at the NARF at North Island as the E2 project officer.  Test flew them and the C2 as well as the H46 & H53.  I was in RVAW 120 for the RAG out in VA, then VR-24 in the MED.  Not many E2 jocks, small world, über ugly airplane, had to pre-flight it in a mirror to keep from turning to stone.  Loved doing night traps in it, my testicles still haven't descended from the last one.  Not many airplanes had the Death Ray capability of the E2, 1.2 million watts output!

That is truly amazing. Who knew that they were selling the A2 upper and the heavier profile barrel back in the 70s?

And the mid '80s stock and pistol grip and an M4 handguard ring with the cuts for the M203...
