Is there a safe copper solvent that won't damage a stainless barrel? |
|
Quoted:
BoreTech Eliminator has no ammonia and is safe to leave in the barrel as long as you want. It melts copper fast too. I'll 2nd that. Been using that and both the copper cleaner for a few years now and have been more than happy with it. I have used just about every popular cleaner, and none of them have done as good as BoreTech eliminator.

Bore cleaners containing ammonia were all we had until recently but now, there is a better way. |

I just broke in a White Oak competition upper last weeked and used the Wipe-Out / Patch-Out and the Accelerator product and they did a great job cleaning things without stinking up the place, burning your eyes, nose and throat like normal copper solvents do. Easy on the fingers and it was amazing how much crap came out of the barrels after firing just one round (I followed the shoot one, clean, shoot one, clean....etc for 7 times).
I'm sold |

Noveske recommends KG-2 for copper removal in their stainless barrels.
They state in the barrel break in instructions- "Shooters Choice or CR-10 will chemically loosen the copper fouling, but KG 2 is found to remove the copper without the use of chemical solvents which may attack barrel steel. After cleaning with chemical solvents, neutralize the solvents with denatured alcohol or oil and patch dry. If using KG 2 or any other micro abrasive product, use KG 3 solvent to flush out the bore, spraying from the breech with muzzle end down. Always finish with Tetra Gun Oil or KG 4." http://www.midwayusa.com/product/748024/kg-kg-2-bore-restore-4-oz |

Sharp Shoot-R claims that their Wipe-Out foaming bore cleaner has powerful anti-corrosives, and you can leave it in as long as you want without hurting the bore. I haven't tried it on stainless, but I've left in my chrome-moly barrels for 24 hrs at a time many times, with no ill effects.
Besides, I'm lazy, so I like how it works. Shoot the bore full, let it sit for a few hours, then patch it out, repeat as necessary. I like that a lot better than all of the brushing and scrubbing that some people do. |
