just a quick question here. My first AR build the safety selector will only go to safe if the hammer is cocked. I know its not really a problem i was just wondering if this is normal.

Not the best safety device as it only stops the trigger travel from the hammer sear engagement. The M14, Mini14, M1 hammer hook is a fool proof positive engagement. But it works and is normal to only engage while hammer is cocked.
