[ARCHIVED THREAD] - Safety switch will not move

Hey Arfcommers,

I just put together two lowers tonight and on one, I cannot get the safety switch to move from fire to safety easily. It requires gorilla strength once, then it moves easily like it should, then goes back to hard. The pin is in correctly with the proper spring. When I loosen the handle, so there is around 1/8" of sight between the grip and the receiver, the switch moves easier but still sometimes acts up.

What should I do?

Sounds like you need to trim a very small portion of your spring.

I guess start at 3 cm and keep going till it works?

Just do a little at a time, toooo much and you will be buying a new spring. You just want it tight enough but not too loose that the air will move it.

I just built a bunch of lowers that had a parts kits with the same issue . you need to cut 1/16 or a little more to get the pin loose enough

Did you use a standard grip? If not, the depth of the hole may be different. You can always just drill the hole slightly deeper in the grip. Is the detent groove smooth in the safety?

Yep, sounds like the spring is compressed bound.

Either clip the spring or check the grip to make sure that the spring channel does not have something in it (chased with a drill bit and slightly deepened if you don't want to clip the spring).

thanks! I ended up opening the grip a bit by hand so the switch is moving better now. I also have the Magpul miad btw
