I already tried Samson in the Industry forum with no response for several days so I figured I'd ask here. I just got an Evo rail and I mocked it up last week. It appears that the top rail on the Evo is higher than the upper. Is this how it was designed or do I have an abnormality? No pics or exact measurement but I can get them if necessary. Anyone else with an Evo fore end see this?  Thanks

I have a 15" Samson Evolution rail on a Stag 3G upper. It is flush with the rail on the upper receiver - no issues like you describe.

Should fit flush.

My 11" fits flush against my Aero forged upper.

Mine lines up perfectly.

Are you sure the thermal bushings are installed correctly? That's typically the problem from what I've seen when anything isn't lining up with this rail.

Thanks for the quick responses. I'll double check how I had the bushings but I followed the supplied instructions and I am pretty sure they were on right. I'll double check again tonight.

If you had the thermal bushing upside down when you mocked it up that would cause the top section to sit high

Checked the bushings last night and I did have them the right way when I mocked it up. Tried them backwards and got the same results. Here is a picture of the difference with the bushings on the way the instructions say they should go. I noticed that the body lines line up fine but the rail section is off on one or the other. It's a Rock River 9mm upper receiver, maybe that is not machined right?

I've got two evos and they are both flush. Is the gas block under the evo? If so, is it touching?

Is that just mocked up? Or are the tension screws tightened down. I'm wondering if it not being tight on there is causing it to look like that.

The height difference is only 2mm.
I wonder if the OP got a set of barrel bushings that were just slightly bent, out of round, or too much material.
It looks like a slight bit of Dremeling on the top of the bushing, just removing a 1mm of material would allow the rail to lay flush with the upper.

Photos are only lightly tightened. I tried going tighter and it helped a hair but still a very obvious difference. Thanks for all the help, I'll be sending it back to where I got it for a refund and look into another rail. Anybody know anything about the Seekins Precision MCSR V2 Key Mod Rail System?

might have to remove those tabs.  I had to do that on my fortis rail.  its the machining on the upper.

mine sits flush, even when hand tightened.  Are you sure you have the barrel seated in the upper properly?  It looks like that has a downward cant to it...

Since you originally headed down the Samson Evo path, have you looked at the Rainier Evo Rail.

Yes the Rainier Evo was the one I wanted but they are out of stock and can't tell me when they will be back in stock. So I compromised for time consideration and chose the Samson version of the Evo.

I'd rather not alter it to the point that if it still doesn't work I can't return it or sell it easily.

The barrel looks straight to me when the rail is off. Is there another way to put a barrel in an AR other than lining the pin up? I am far from an expert on assembly but this isn't my first build, but this is my first 9mm build. It probably looks canted because the rail is not on very tight in the photo. Screwed down tight the slight cant goes away but the rail mismatch stays basically the same.

I called today and talked to the people at Samson and they did offer to have it shipped in to be checked for specs. They felt it wasn't an out of spec rail though and more likely an out of spec upper (uppers made during the panic as it was a recent purchase) so I declined to waste their time and money on shipping. So like I said I'll probably be returning it an waiting for either the Rainier or looking at the Seekins Precision MCSR V2 Key Mod Rail System. Bummed cause I like this rail. Any other slim rail an Octane 9 will fit under?

Thank you all for the suggestions and rubbing it my face that your Samson rails fit flush

Just wanted to give an update, looked into some of the new suggestions last night and ... pjomalley had the fix. I didn't take the tabs off just filed a little off the backside and now it fits like it should. Thanks again for all your help.

Good to hear man, glad you got the rail to work, the Evo rail is great. I love mine

Good deal.
I thought some filing would be necessary.
For clarity, you wound up filing a bit off the rail or the upper?

I took a small amount off the back of the anti-rotation tabs on the rail. Can't see that it was modified at all with it all together.
