Trying to decide on a rail. Want to keep the standard FSB.
Samson 9 or Troy Alpha 9 for a midlength gas system. Anybody have the Troy with the FSB? Troy has .pdf instructions that say a low profile gas block is required - but I don't see why with a 9" rail on a midlength. |

Hmm doesn't make sense to me but it looks like the PDF shows a carbine with a longer rail. I have the 9" of both rails (Rainier Evolution) and the gas block sits outside the 9" rail on a middy (I'm using low-pro and switchblock...so I wanted it out).
ETA... Just measured. The Alpha sits at about 9 3/16" and the Rainier Evolution is at 9" so it is a little longer. Found this: The Alpha BattleRail uses the standard AR15 / M16 barrel nut but does require removal of the delta ring assembly. The Troy Alpha handguard can be used on a carbine gas system as long as a low profile gas block is used. It can also be used on a mid-length gas system and standard front sight base (FSB). Removal of the FSB is required for installation though as the handguard is a one piece extrusion.
