Hi guys. Ive just spent the past half hour trying to perform the procedure to put the santose improved battlesight zero on my bushy A2. Not an easy task. First of I went through hell and high water to find a 1/16 allen wrench and im still not alltogether sure that it is a 1/16 at that. I then proceeded to try to turn the allen screw in the sight base with the allen key. santose zero too bad the instructions didnt say which direction to turn. I tried both clockwise and counterclockwise the the screw wont budge a bit either way, and in fact it seems that it is more likely that the allen wrench will break in two before the allen screw ever moves. can anyone give me some advice on this? im at my wits end. edited to change title |
| I just sighted 2 bushies in today with the santos method. Unscrew the allen screw 3 turns move the bottom knob of the elevation 2 clicks below 8/3 for A2[:\] or 4 clicks below for A3. Tighten screw back up. Use small peephole and sight in for 50 meters and your done. Seems pretty simple. |

The set screw should be turned counter clockwise to loosen. You should turn the screw out three or four turns to get the screw clear of the drum. If it will not loosen up then someone may have used some loc-tite on it or it is rusted in. Before you do any damage I would recommend taking it to a gunsmith and let him do the adjustment. The Santose battle sight works really well but I prefer the Marine corp battle sight from the -10 manual dated 1986 that bottoms at -3 clicks below 8/3,and is sighted in at 25 meters at 8/3 +1 setting. As it gives you more adjustment for target shooting.8/3 -3=100,8/3 -2=200 AND 8/3=300 etc. Once set at 25 meters bottom the sight at 8/3 -3 clicks and fine tune at 100 if needed. The same goes for the santose, bottom out at 8/3 -2 and fine tune at 200 meters if needed. The santose battle sight is about 1.75" high in my 1in9 using 55 gr and back on at 200.Fine tuned at 200. The marine battle sight is dead on at 100(fine tuned at 100) and .50" high at 200. Good luck.3 Raymond |

Quoted: ok speaking in terms of feet/yards what range do I need to zero this at? I dont have a shooting range nearby so I do all of my shooting in an about 55 foot space in the backyard. I'll have to run some numbers and get back to you on that. So where the do the bullets go after the 55ft space? |

ok speaking in terms of feet/yards what range do I need to zero this at? 50 yards = 150 feet. At 60 feet (20 yards) the round will hit 1.4" BELOW the point of aim (at 30 feet it will be 2.0" low). These numbers assume iron sights (or an optic at the 2.6" HOB of the irons), M4 barrel, M193 ammo, and 75deg F at 1400' ASL. (though it doesn't enough to worry about if you're using a 20" rifle @ sea level) |

Fight and Forest, Nice to see you guys round hyah. Did some interesting close range shooting with an A1 uppered 20" Sendra gun and a new student last weekend. Zeroed at 25 with the "L" and then moved IN 5 yds at a time firing a group each on the "L" and the battlesight. Finally at 5 yds (I know, I know) the POI for both apertures overlapped and were at 2.5" low (that's what I was looking for). I'll have to get a copy of the try target and scan it in. Interesting way to spend an afternoon. Nice avatar Fight, looks oddly familiar. Finally broke down and begged some photo software from the boss. Fixed my pics, no more squashing. |
