I'm looking for a scope mount for a flat top AR and I'm looking for suggestions. I don't need a QD system since this AR will be dedicated to scope use.

I have thought about just spending the dough and picking up a LaRue LT104 because I know that's just about as good as it gets, but I'd like to hear any suggestions on less expensive alternatives.

The PEPR from Burris has gotten great reviews..

Nikon also has a similar mounts (1 and 2 piece models) - but havent really heard any reviews

As far as non-QD one piece mounts go, I use both the Vortex and Nikon M-223 mounts.  Never had a single problem with either.  Both are solid and hold zero just fine.

Before I switched everything over to LaRue and Bobro, I ran Burris both fixed and QD.  In my opinion, they are the best bang for the buck.  If you plan on leaving the scope attached, they are great.  They are well made and beefy.  I never had a single shift, even after butt stroking the gun to extract a stuck case (gotta love cheap, dirty ammo).  I cleaned the chamber and proceeded to fire.  No change.

Their QD mounts hold well, but their return to zero has a lot to be desired.  If you plan on taking the scope on and off and need close to zero return, then spend the money on LaRue or Bobro.  I exclude ADM because I could not get them to return to zero like the other two.  1 to 2 moa was the norm.  My LaRue hovers around 1 moa and my Bobro is even tighter.

Another vote for Vortex or Nikon.

Or if you want to save even more, take a look at these-

+1 for the Nikon.  I switched from a Burris QD to the Nikon 20 MOA fixed mount due to zero issues and haven't had an issue since.  Good quality for the money.

If you want to go LaRue you can get them with the VFZ mount and save yourself $50.

From LaRue's site

"Why should I select VFZ™ Mounts instead of a QD Lever Mount?:
If you intend to leave an optic or accessory on a rail for the life of the rifle, the VFZ™ option is for you. The VFZ™ is intended as a longer-term, semi-permanent mounting alternative to our well-known Speed Levers. While both mounts will allow the user to remove the mount from the weapon, reinstall it in the same position, and return to zero, the VFZ™ mount is intended for users that will not need to constantly remove and install their mounts (especially in the field)."
