Looking to mount a 42mm obj. Scope on a flattop.  Do I need a riser mount? Or not?  If so, what height rings?  If not, what height??  Would like it to be comparible to a Bolt action geometry.  I am using a A2 stock.

Thanks

If the sight is high enough to get good eye alignment and cheekweld, the scope will have plenty of clearance.

Scope mount geometry is also affected by eye relief, shooters physical conformaton and shooting position.

If you're fussy you may have to try more that one configuration.

Another issue besides ring height, do you have a shaved front sight assembly? I get nasty FSB shadow in my ACOG, so it might be a problem for you too.

Try the Armalite one piece mount. It puts the scope at the same height as the A2 sights. It's not fancy or hitech but it works and they can be had for 70 bucks or less. I have had one on my Ar10 for years and has never moved or lost zero.
