Hey all, I had started a prior thread about an SPR style rifle and it was generally about scopes but also expanded into ammunition. Either way, I think I've narrowed things down on the glass end. Looking into a Leupold Mark AR MOD1 4-12x40. Looking to hit as close as 100yds but out to about 4-500yds max. What's everyone think and are there any suggestions in glass and/or mounts? That is, before I click "buy now." Thanks!

I prefer 30mm tubes, but do like the Mark AR series by Leupold. I just ordered a 1.25x4 Leupold Mark AR model with crosshairs and a fire dot for my Ruger 10/22.

I don't like high magnification scopes on AR's. They work great off the bench, but are hell to live with in the field because you can't get a steady position. The higher magnification becomes a mute point if you have to dial the scope down to 4x to get the crosshairs stable. 3x9 is as high as I would go and only for a 20" or longer barreled rifle. 1.5x5 up to 2x7 works great on AR's because you can dial the scope down for close range combat style shooting. Dial it up for long shots.

You need a cantilevered scope base that centers the scope from 1.375" to 1.500" above the rail. Warne, Aero Precision, Vortex, PRI (Precision Reflex Inc.), GG&G, and a half-dozen other companies make good ones. Leupold Mark 2 only uses two screws per scope ring but they work well anyway.

AR-15's don't have enough rail space to allow proper eye relief without using a cantilevered mount.

I'm looking into the LaRue Tactical SPR / M4 Scope Mount QD LT104 with either the Leupold Mark AR MOD 1 3-9 or 4-12....Will my Magpul BUIS cbe cleared on the back side?

Disregard, I just looked further into the "p5" dial. I'm out. I don't want to specifically be locked down to .223 55gr at 3100fps. I plan to use heavier grain for accurate shots at distance on paper.....yet basic stuff like the 55gr for closer steel.

The P5 dial can be replaced. First one is even free from leupold. Give them your ballistics data and they make you a new turret. I did one to match the fusion MSR rounds

Can that be swapped out without having to readjust anything? I just don't see a ton of info on it.
