I've been following this board for some time and finally decided to register. For the past year I've been using Bushmaster A4 with iron sight in the 20 - 100 yard range. Now I'm looking to set up a Bushmaster V-match 24" flat top with optics. Primary usage is plinking and target at 20 - 300 yards. Additional distance would be nice but not a requirement. Considering 2 scopes at this time, Vari-X III 4.5-14x40mm Adj. Obj. Tactical or Trijicon Compact A.C.O.G. 3x24 w/Dot BAC. Since I have no experience with either scope I'd like to hear from folks who have. Positives, negatives, mounting options, etc. I'm open to all suggestions. Also interested in hearing about other optic set ups that fit the 20 - 300 yard range.

The Leupold would be perfect for your 24" barreled upper and the compact ACOG is perfect to mount to your carbine.

I have the 3X ACOG with the cross hair rectle. It would be great for ranges 50-200 yards. At greater distances, the Leupold may be the better choice. But that's just my opinion.

I've got the TA50-2 3x compact ACOG on my 20" lightweight gov't profile AR, and a 10x Tasco Super Sniper on my 24" Vmatch.

The Vari-X II sounds good for the 24" Vmatch.

They're differently designed scopes for two different missions. The Leopold would me for more of a sniper's role, the Trijicon for more of the designated marksmen.
