New member here, as well as a new AR-15 owner.  I am an avid shooter, but it has been almost exclusively with handguns.  Other than some deer hunting about 40 years ago, my long gun experience is limited to bird hunting and shotguns.  My scope experience is basically zero.  I had a blast shooting a friend’s AR-15 a few times, so decided to get one for myself, which brings us to my current dilemma.

I want a scope for my S&W M&P15T w/picatinny rails, and fold down Troy sights.  My eyesight is not horrible, but unusual in that I am near-sighted in one eye, and far-sighted in the other.   I have ruled out a red dot as not very practical, as I plan to shoot some distances, and probably do some ranch hunting for problem critters.  I have looked at vast numbers of scopes, and decided I want a Trijicon AccuPoint 3-9X40 illuminated reticle scope.  It is the only one I can immediately pickup a target with, and I like it a lot.  I need help on how to mount it.

My reading seems to indicate that the best mount for a flat rail is a 1.5” to center one-piece cantilevered mount for this scope.  I think a LaRue tactical LT104 or Trijicon TR124 is what I need, but I want to be sure.  I’d rather not remove the rear sight, and will not need it raised for back up sites.

Will the mounting choices I mentioned let the scope clear the folded down rear sight?  Also, is my choice of scope reasonable, or are there better choices for my purpose?

The LaRue LT-104 will clear your BUIS, although it's a tight fit:

If you want a higher cheek weld, you can opt for something like the ADM-Recon-H, which sits at 1.93" instead of the LT-104 1.5".  It's all personal preference.

Does anyone know if the Trijicon TR124 also has a 1.5" center like the LaRue LT104?  I can't find anywhere on their site that gives any dimensions.
