| I have an Aimpoint sight for my AR and am wanting to have a good scope for it also. Is there enough accuracy in a Freefloated 16" barrel or should I just stick to the Aimpoint. I have budgeted around 800-900 for a good scope. Should I get a good scope or is a short barrel accurate enough for the scope? |

What are you going to use the scope for? Are you going to be wanting 16x magnification? adjustable from 3-9x perhaps? If I had saved $800 for a scope and I had an Aimpoint, I'd sell the Aimpoint and use the combined sum to buy an ACOG TA31F It's only 4x, but also fairly quick because of the ability to use the Bindon Aiming Concept, although I don't have a problem using BAC on my TA01 which is not fiber optic and does NOT have a large glowing aiming point. |
| The scope will be used out to 200-250 yds probably for practice and maybe busting a few ground hogs. I am used to 24" varmit AR's and am wondering how much accuracy drops off in a 16" barrel. I have had a couple of Leupold MK4 m3 scopes in variable 4.5-14 and really liked them. I am always on the lookout for soemthing better. |
First of all, what type barrel do you have and what's of twist? All my carbines are 1:7. In the SS match grade, I use Hornady 75gr TAP or BH 77gr. I run both NightForce 2.5-10X and/or ACOGS. My 16.5" SS match grade shoot ~0.5MOA at 200M. For my C/L 1:7, I run both ACOGS and/or Aimpoints plus the same ammo with a mix of M193 and Q3131A. |
