| I recently purchased a BSA Sweet .223 for my rifle. When I try to aim the point of impact the elevation turret keeps clicking but makes no adjustment for the last 100 or so clicks. It will make adjustment all the way to full lock going the other way, but going down is ka-pooey. I called BSA and they said it could've possibly been a mounting problem, what do you guys think?? |

It's possible that you have a mounting problem. Most scopes fail or have a short life because of improper mounting. If you have a bore sighter (collimator) go ahead and get the rifle level in a vise or on sand bags. Take off the top ring halfs. Get the bore sighter in the muzzle. With both adjusting screws at or near mechanical center, turn one screw at a time counter-clockwise to the end of its travel. Don't force the screw at the end of its travel. If there's apparent reticle movement for every click across the grid of the bore sighter, then you have a mounting problem for sure. Rings can have different centers or be at different heights without you realizing it. Brownells sells a real cool tool that comes in two parts with pointy ends. With the tools in the rings, if every thing is good the points will touch at the pointy ends. If something is off, the points do not touch. Now, if the while you're turning the adjusting screw and you don't see any apparent reticle movement across the bore sighter grid, then for some reason the bias spring is no longer in contact with the free end of the erector tube. That means that the erector tube will relocate after every recoil event causing point of impacts to be all over the place. But, based on my experience, BSA is probably right if you can't adjust in on direction. In general most scope have about 1 degree of internal adjustment. If you bend the scope body by even a small amount, you'll have to use more internal adjustment to compensate for the bent body. If there's a big bend, you'll lose the ability to compensate for it. Do the above test and post your results. |
