Hello,
I have a feeling this is a no go but, is it okay to mount a scope with one ring on the flattop and one ring on a freefloat handguard?
Thank you
Take care

No, bridging the gap is bad.

ETA - Get a cantilever mount that puts your scope out further.  I use this one.

I concur 100%!  LaRue mounts rule!  Pull it off, put it back on, it holds it's zero.

Thanks guys.  $200 for that mount
What if there is no gap and the rails touch?

Generally speaking, bridging the handguard and receiver with a magnified precision-optic is a bad thing.

With the aid of high-speed photography, you can see the amount of flex (there's a lot more than you'd think). Even with rails that cosmetically butt up against the receiver.

The LT-104, LT-139 and LT-135 have gained global popularity as a solution to this effect.

Are there any other less expensive alternatives?

Depending on how much forward off-set you need, there are a few options. ArmaLite, Rock River Arms, and Model 1 Sales make/sell one piece mounts.

Yes, but TRUST ME, save your pennies and get a LaRue product. There is nothing better.
