Would it be ok to use a riser, such as the YHM-9592-7" to 'bridge' the upper receiver and railed forearm in order to mount a scope using rings? Would it be perfectly stable? Mockup below to show what I mean.

Nada?

What type of rail?  Some of them are locked/screwed in place and that riser piece would just be wasted money.  A good quality rail system would negate the need for that.

99.99% certain it will be a Rainier/Samson Evolution series free-float system unless something more awesome comes out between now and when they are back in stock...which is highly unlikely. I have one on my carbine build and I don't consider it to be anything but quality. I would not however consider mounting a scope ring on it, or any other free-float rail for that matter. I don't care how tight the locking/screwing mechanism is...I don't think it's a good idea to mount two separate rings on two separate platforms, especially when one is trying to build an accurized AR-15.

There are risers that extend over the forward rail without touching it.  They are designed for rifles without a rail.  Dickhead Swan makes one.

I would pick a better mount at the correct height that puts the scope where you need it, such as a Larue.

I appreciate the input but im not interested in a one piece mount. Also not interested in an extended riser. Just trying to figure out if anyone has done what im thinking of doing and if it's a perfectly stable setup.

I'd say no.

i am trying to do something similar, i am curious if i install a quard rail handguard, will the top of the handguard rail level with the flat top rail? is there spec for this

ARMS have their SWAN sleeve(s) and GG&G got their Scout and GS-1 optical rails. Why not an extended scope mount (like the ADM Recon-X or LaRue SPR-E), instead of a scout rail and rings?

The SWAN concept is what me led to this idea. The SWAN bridges the upper and forend, but it extends from the rear of the upper to the FSB. I have two problems with this. First I want to have the option of running a rear BUIS of my choosing and not be limited to the ARMS BUIS. Also, I don't want an extra 12" of rail or the weight associated with it, when I don't need it.

The GG&G rails eliminate the option to utilize a rear BUIS altogether.

The TRS-1 is 16.5" long and weighs almost 30 oz. It has a mounting length of 6.8". I'm a big fan of the ADM and Larue mounts but the maximum width between the rings on those mounts is between 2.5 and 3.25 inches. I'd like to be able to mount the rings at least 3/4 of and inch wider than that.

Some will and some won't. I know my Rainier Evo rail lines up perfectly level with the upper but I've read that some of the Troy rails don't.

Yeah, I'd bet you'd be ok since the majority of the mount is on the upper receiver, but if your handguard even a little bit flexible all bets are off.

Personally, I use a QD LT101 riser from LaRue that extends out over the handguard.  Why compromise?
