I have just mounted a tasco varmint/tactical to my ar using and M&A 1x piece scope mount.  I mounted it all the way forward and it is still too far back for eye relief.  I have to pull my head back pretty far to get a picture.  Has anyone else had this problem.  What other high magnification scope would fit properly?  I would like the scope to be roughly in the same spot as the open sight.

Many varmint scopes are so long, and have fairly long eye relief, that the only way to mount them on an AR is to use something like an ARMS #38ex "Swan Sleeve" to provide mounting positions far enough forward.

You may want to spend some time reading the Optics forum.

I had the same problem.  I tried a couple different scopes.  I eventually solved the problem with an Armalite one piece scope mount.  If angles forward enough to get the scope in front.
