Why couldn't you just say "Nikon Prostaff Rifle Scope 3-9x 40mm " that midway sells for $159?

NO, never used one.

Why would you want to put the cheapest scope you can find on a $1000 gun? I'd rather have a thousand dollar scope on a hundred dollar gun myself. I'm not saying you need a thousand dollar scope, but don't go cheap on optics. Spend 3-400 and get quality.

I built my AR with a S&WM&P lower and a Delton M4 kit  = $750

I thought Nikon where fair to good scopes ...

I agree with you...somewhat. I don't like cheap chinese optics but the Nikon is far from the "cheapest scope you can find". They are IMO one step above that and aren't all that bad for the price. I personally wouldn't want to use the one in question on any of my AR's.

The way my work has been the past year if I didn't already have the guns and optics I own now I might be looking at "cheaper" solutions too.

I think a person could do far worse than a Nikon. They do have a good reputation of standing behind their scopes from what I have read.

I mounted a Nikon 6-20 (it wasn't cheap in price and was made in Japan, not China) on a Remington 700 220 Swift varmint rifle in 1994 and it has been a good one, never a problem.  Apples and oranges I know...just saying mine has been good.

*I have no real experience with the Chinese Nikon scopes made now.

Bottom line...in the long run saving up for a better scope is usually the best way to go, spend once - cry once. But for $100 this one would make a decent (until I can afford a better) scope.
