what is the right scope ring height for a flat top upper with an A2 front sight. I have a leupold vx II 3-9x40. Thanks!

Depends on the rings but highs should work.

my Rem. R-25 takes extra high just to clear the forward tube and even that requires a VERY tight cheek weld at higher powers.  I am actually thinking a bit higher would be right on my rifle.  Granted, a big daddy upper is different from a normal AR upper.  The Vari X II is not noted for tons of eyer relief and the eye box at higher power is pretty tight.  Mine is a 4-12/40 with a forward AO.

I use the Leupold Mark 4 Super High rings for all mine. Pricey and heavy but well worth it.

i have the burris P.E.P.R. sight base and love it, gets the scope up high enough and gives you some foraward movement to get more eye relief
