| I would appreciate some feedback from those who are more experienced than I in zeroing AR's. I am setting up my AR with Leupold vari-x 3x9 scope for a 300 yd zero. My understanding from looking at ballistics charts and reading on here is that if I zero the rifle at 25 yds to be point of aim is point of impact, it should also be zeroed for 300 yds. so then why are my rounds striking 12 inches above point of aim at 100yds? according to ballistics charts for 55g ball ammo, i should be striking about 3.5 to 4 inches high at 100 yds. but my impacts are all grouped fairly well 10-12 inches high. what gives? i know everything is tight because i am shooting dime size groups at 25 yds into dead center. |

Messing with the calculator here, a 55gr, .243 BC bullet at 3,100 FPS with a sight height of 3" zeroed a 25 yards strikes 12" high at 300 yards.
Reduce the sight height to 2" and you're at 1.3" high. How high is your scope? Do you know the BC of your bullets and have you chronographed your loads out of that particular rifle? |
