I am trying to pick out my upper and I have seen some rifles with scope and a regular gas block/sight, I was wondering how the scope picture was if the gas block blocks some of the view or not. does anyone have pictures of scope views ?

Anything about 3x and above you can't see the front sight. It becomes a slight shadow. The higher the power, the less you see of it.

Had the same concern, but NoAim above is exactly right.

Is that with just regular scope mounts or do I need some special/high mounts ?

I used "ultra high" (1.4") mounts to get the 40 mm scope where I wanted it for general fit considerations.  This does not elevate the scope above the standard AR front sight.
The 1.4" is the dimension from the top of the rifle's rail, to the centerline of the scope.

The FSB is too close to focus so they simply decrease the amount of light gathered instead.  They become an out of focus blur.  If you TRY to focus on the front sight and pull your head back off the scope you can still see the FSB at lower power but then the picture through the scope is not usable and out of focus.  If you can see your target at 3X and up the FSB blurs out due to the reducing depth of field of the optic to the point it is not even noticable.  You could mount the scope so low the FSB covered a strip from the bottom to the top of the objective and you would still see a complete sight picture from the light gethered from the left and right of the FSB.

FWIW - A scope mounted behind an A2 FSB is certainly usable but even with the sight blurred out, it will darken/disrupt your view through the scope...at least this has been my experience.  I've had a 3.5-10 Luppy, TA11 and currently 2.5-10 NXS and all have a much better/brighter view with the front sight out of the way.  For me, when I looked through these scopes with the front sight in the way it was lilke looking through a cheap scope.

I have a railed gasblock with a detachable front sight that ordinarily I remove when at the range.  Tired of this, I 've finally purchased a flip front.  Everyone is different and their needs are different but if you want a good clear picture through your scope, I'd suggest a flip front.
