I have them on my red-dot. What am I doing wrong??? Horizontally-split are easy but these are kicking my ASS

I'm guessing you are talking about rings like the Larue rings.  If so, just tighten the lower ones first and then level the sight and tighten the upper ones.  If you go to the MSTN section in the Industry section, he explains it well.

Tighten the bottom screws on the rings first and position your scope or red dot. Then tighten the top screws as the other poster stated. The top screws should not bottom out. There should be a small gap at the top.
