[ARCHIVED THREAD] - Securing patch to cleaning rod

I purchased a Dewey cleaning rod, round .22-.270 patches, and a brass spear tip.

Do I actually poke the spear tip through the patch or does it just wrap around it? So far, the only way I can keep the patch on long enought to get it into the bore is to spike it on the spear tip. Is there another method besides purchasing a bore guide?

You got it. You could even be more brutal and cut a 12ga patch to wrap one turn around a .22CF brush.

Those jags are the only way to go. Center up the patch and run it through.
