| You know, those silver plates with a tab that prevent the selector from rotating past semi. Is there any demand, or interest in these things? |

Are you guys talking about these things? I never bothered to degrease them, but the do clean up nice. http://i52.tinypic.com/2884dwm.jpg Well, looks like we've found a couple.

They mount on top of the pistol grip. Orient it so that the hole allows for the selector detent spring. Yep, 1911 demil. Unfortunately one of many scattered about the place.
Kind of embarrasing to show the picture, so much chaos. It's great to have so much junk but it is also overwhelming. |

Well, I asked becasue I saved a bunch from teh dumpster, and figured you retro guys could use them. The ones I've got a still shiny, but have some grunge.
Free for teh taking, with the following caveats: just don't be greedy, I would like postage compensation (depending on what tehy cost to send), and you cannot resell them. Got like 8-10 of them. Prioritys to: nobar60 -3 pezboytate -1 recovry4x4 -2 if you guys want some shrikefan -2 Let me get it all worked out with these guys, if i have more, i'll let you guys know. |

Here's some pics of one cleaned up (five minutes with dishsoap, hot water and a nylon brush) and installed on an unfinished lower. The point of the device is to stop the user from going to full auto. Obviously not for front line troops. Police departments, guard units etc. were and are more frequent users of the device. A previous guy mentioned he thought it was retarded. Hey, I think 3rd burst is an excuse for lack of training but it's still a part of the M16 history and for whatever reason guys still pay big bucks to have it. http://i52.tinypic.com/1eudzk.jpg http://i54.tinypic.com/xqmijm.jpg http://i56.tinypic.com/212bc4m.jpg http://i56.tinypic.com/x58i7b.jpg FWIW I don't like the 3 rd burst either.Buddy just got back from Astan and said he hardly ever used it.BTW he is Marine infantry. |

I never liked them much, either, but they served a purpose. We had them on our A1s in Annapolis because over two weeks each summer we'd put a thousand or so Midshipmen through basic rifle training. The goal was less to train them to shoot...than to teach them not to shoot one another.
When you line 'em up about 40 at a time (most of whom were first-time shooters), and hand them select-fire machine guns...you quickly learn to appreciate anything that might limit the potential damage of their basic ignorance. (No offense to any ring-knockers on the board...I'm not talking about you, of course––just thousands of other Middies I once knew! Now that I think about them, I'd like to score one for my black A1. It was built (rack number and all) to remind me of those days by the Severn River, but I completely overlooked this detail! This one is semi-auto, unfortunately, so the stop won't serve any practical purpose...but it just might help an old Gunner hold on to some fading memories! |
