| What's the best self defense round for close quarter combat from a 1:7 twist 14.5" M4? |
|
M193 is far from the best ammo to use for self defense. A large percentage of the ammo fails to fragment. If a large percentage of pistol ammo failed to expand people would call it crap. However this is AR15.com and everyone seems to worship M193 for some odd reason and call it the best defensive ammo you can buy. Get a 75 grain OTM rounjd from Hornady or Black Hills. Why would you think you cant use 75 grain ammo from a 1/7 twist barrel? |

Last I knew the good 75 TAP was LE purchase only. I would go with mk262 seconds from Cabela's. |
?? 75gr TAP is availabe at SAMMI pressures for civilians for some time. Black Hills also makes a great loading with the same Hornady 75gr OTM. Personally I purchase more of the Black Hills because it's readily available locally. Dr. Roberts (DocGKR) has discussed this subject on TF (use the Search feature there), he has listed several loads that are top tier for 1:7 twist barrels (and no, M193 didn't make Tier 1 or Tier 2). +1 on the MK262, it simply rocks!
You beat me to it Troy! |
Yep that's it. The 75 gr stuff has a better wound track though. Now if the MK262 used the 77 gr Nosler round it would be a different story. Because everybody knows that MK262 with the 77 gr Nosler round is pretty much the best in 5.56. But your gonna have to load it yourself. |
