I just got in my semi-custom Rainier Arms upper which I put together with my Rainier Arms RUC lower I bought a couple of months ago.  I wanted a simple, tough, light, accurate, and functional weapon.  This will be my home defense, truck, and boat weapon.  No need for scopes, tons of add ons, or something that can’t take a beating.  It’s basically their RUC rifle with a medcon barrel and an AAC flash suppressor.

A little background on myself.  I just got out of the Marines after a little more than 10 years.  I flew CH-46E’s for two deployments and did a FAC (Forward Air Controller) tour in Southern Helmand during the surge in 2010.  Though this is my first AR-15 I’ve owned I’ve been shooting my entire life.  I was never big on the AR platform until I used it extensively in Afghanistan.  My M-4 never let me down, shot straight, and never jammed.  It changed my mind on the AR platform.  I decided to get myself a present for getting out of the Marines and moving on with my life.

I went with their RUC lower and it is top notch.  It just feels right when I pick it up.  The safety has the 45 deg fire selector that is much faster than the regular 90 deg one.  Wish I had that on my M-4 a couple of times when I needed to shoot fast.  The trigger is smooth and feels right for a weapon that is meant to shoot in real world situations.

For the upper I went with a Rainier upper, Rainier medcon 16” stainless barrel, Rainier Force 12” free float fore end, Rainier BCG, Raptor charging handle, and an AAC Blackout flash suppressor.  Right now I will be using flip up iron sights I got from PSA until I upgrade to a nice red dot sight.  I decided to go with the medcon barrel because I read great reviews on it, it’s accurate, and I like that it is stainless steel since I go offshore fishing often and I like the rust resistance of stainless.

Rainier has been a great company to work with.  Whenever I called them up to ask questions they answered them and if they didn’t know they would figure it out and let me know.  When I ordered my upper and medcon barrel I guess the demand for the medcon barrel was greater than the supply, and they ran out of barrels even though I had bought one online.  I was called up and said it would be several weeks longer until they got some back in stock.  They were very professional, upgraded my free float rail, and spent some time on the phone while they were building my upper to make sure they got it exactly how I wanted it.  I was very impressed on their customer service, and they give a great military discount.  I’ll be buying from them again in the future.

I took it to the range and was finally able to sight it in.  The PSA sights are nice, but I had to drop the front post sight way farther down that I ever had to on any M-16/M-4 that I’ve sighted in.  I sighted it in at 25 yards.  Included in the pics is the final group of 3 shots from a bench rest.  This rifle blows away any that I was issued in the Marines.  I wish I had this one when I was in Afghanistan.  I’m looking forward to bringing this out to a 200 yard range.  No regrets on deciding on this rifle, just glad I finally have a high quality AR.  First time on the range I shot about 120 rounds from magpul magazines and it didn’t jam once.  I used cheap 55 grain FMJ ammo for the first trip to the range.  I just got in some 77grain silver state ammo I plan to shoot soon and will update once I do.

Thanx for your service.  Did I miss a question in there somewhere?

I think I have a relative of that one

Looks really good! I have nothing but good to say about Rainer and their products. The AAC hider works great.

I don't have any combat experience but since I got into ARs almost 5 years ago I have had zero reliability issues even with neglect and little maintenance.

Enjoy!

yes, I'd say you have a similar rifle.  Nice rifle you have there, you and I think along similar lines.
