| Is it ok to ship a mildot scope out of the US? I thought I remember seeing something saying it was prohibited but couldn't find anyting. My search on google turned up nothing but I will admit my google-fu sucks ass. |

You'll need a license to ship any telescopic sight or any type of sight that can be used for a shot gun. There's a series of regulations called the Export Administration Regulations (EAR) where these items are listed under OA987. Telescopic sights and sights used for shot guns are listed under prohibited items under the same category as parts for nuclear power plants. Strange but true. What country are you trying to ship it to? |

OUCH! That adds another hurdle to jump over being that Canada, as well as the US, belongs to the Organization of American States. The way it normally works, is the company that is importing (you're exporting) gets permission from Canada and then sends you the original form. You then apply for the license to export and also send in the Canadian form along with the license. That's how you do it all nice and legal like. You didn't hear this from me, but if you went to Canada and accidentally left the scope there...I'd feel bad that you lost your scope. |
