Great info here on assembling an AR, but not so sure on having a complete shopping list for parts.  The list below assumes I am constructing my own upper assembly.  I am certain some things are missing.  Appreciate any guidance on what else I need. If some of these parts come in a kit of some sort, please let me know.  For instance, do I need to order a buffer tube and spring separately, or does it come with some other piece?  The list applies to an AR15 and AR10 type rifle.

Thanks.  - Phil

sounds about right. My stock came with the buffer tube and spring and I bought the bolt carrier with the bolt included. It sounds like the lower is all there but I too need to buy the parts for the upper. Well happy shopping and don't stop until its done.

Your barrel should come with the barrel extension already installed.

And you'll need some sort of sight(s).

You will need the parts to complete your stripped upper receiver (forward assist & dust cover) unless of course you're getting an upper receiver designed without these.

Um, you also need an actual buffer to go with that tube and spring.  Most complete stock kits come with the whole buffer assembly.

Unless you buy a complete blank, all barrels should have the extension already installed and pinned since they need to do that before drilling the gas hole.

What kind of free float tube are you looking at?  Some use a special barrel nut, whereas some attach to the standard barrel nut.

Do you plan on putting any sort of flash hider or compensator on the barrel?

I would also recommend buying the bolt and carrier together (I recommend the LMT enhanced or the BCM)

Sights?

Thanks much for the replies.  To answer a few questions, and perhaps ask a few more...

- I am not using forward assist.  Not sure about using a ejection port dust cover.
- I plan on MagPul stocks, either the CRT or PRS version, which I do not believe come with the buffer, buffer tube, or spring.  Is there a kit for these parts?
- Undecided on float tube, but really like the looks of a SWS 14" on an AR-10 type I saw.  Not sure what kind of barrel nut that takes.
- No flash hider or compensation device for two of the rifles, but one will.  Got to add that.
- Will get bolt and carrier as an assembly.
- I can sort out the red dot and scope stuff.

A good source for the miscellaneous stuff, such as the barrel nuts, buffer parts, gas tube roll pin, etc?

Yeah my friend built an AR-10 on an upper receiver that was forward assist and ejection port cover free. I wasn't buying the idea, but hey, it's not my rifle.

I'm putting together a rifle right now that I'm going to mount a Magpul PRS on and just bought the buffer tube, spring, and buffer seperately from PKFirearms. I've seen buffer kits before, but mostly for collapsible stocks.

I believe the SWS comes with a special 2 piece barrel nut, which also requires a special barrel wrench as well. I'm sure it would look sweet!

As far as miscellaneous small parts, Brownells and MidwayUSA are some of the best, but many of the smaller distributors usually carry them as well (usually have to call them).

Good luck, and be sure to post some pics when you get your rifles complete.

I found this and decided I wanted something very much like it.  Since I live in California, buying it was not possible.  So I got the Noveske N6 .308 lower.  Now I just need the rest.
