I would like to know your opinions on the best side sling mount and where to get it at the best price.  Choices:

-GGG sling thing
-GGG QD sling thing
-M4 side sling adaptor

I am leaning towards the M4 sling adaptor but I don't know where to get the best one.  Bushmaster has one, Rock River Arms has one and there is someone selling some gov't ones with the NSN number on equipment exchange.  Which one of these would you say is the best.

Also, do these fit tight or move around and scratch the bbl etc.?  I don't have a safe queen, well maybe a range and backyard queen but still.

How do the pins attach etc.?

One more question, how do I remove the factory sling attachment?  It seems to be rivoted.  I assume I could take it to a gunsmith but I would rather do it at home.

Thanks,
James

The Bushmaster M4 is a mil-spec equivalent.  It attaches by locking the barrel adaptor between the prongs on the sling base.  You'd have to see it to have it make sense.  A 1/8" drift punch and a hammer are all you need to install it.  I put one on a Bushmaster upper, and a casting seam prevented it from slipping all the way through.  A couple of minutes with a thin flat file fixed that right up.  Yes, they wear the finish on your barrel because they do have a small amount of play.

The standard front sling rivet is easy to remove.  Same tools as above.  A gentle tap on the non-head side of the rivet and the head should pop right off.

Some that Bushmaster sells clamp to the barrel, so you need to know the barrel diameter to get the right one. They also sell one that 'clamps' to the front sight tower. GG&G sells one like that as well. Those are the ones I'd opt for. GG&G sells one that has a sling mount on one side and a flashlight mount on the other side.

My vote is for the GG&G sling thing. I just received one yesterday. Nicely made, and easy to install.

This is the Bushmaster side sling swivel that I had on my AR's before I got SIR's:

The block is reversible to accomodate standard and HBAR barrel profiles, and it's not difficult to install.

It's identical to the side sling swivel that was on my military-issue Colt M4.

Call CQBsolutions.com and get yourself a GG&G sling thing and an SOP sling w/ emergency release buckle.

I already have a CQB SOP sling, nicely made.  I just need a way to mount it [:)]

I think I will go with the sling thing because I don't want to get the M4 side sling adaptor because I don't want any unnecessary finish wear on my bbl in case I ever get enough money for a SIR and remove it.

Which sling thing do you guys recommend?  The QD or regular?  I have no real need for a QD but the price difference is like $5 so it is not a big deal.

Thanks again for all your help.
