Does the charging handle on side charging upper receivers not spring back to the forward position after you pull it to the rear?
In other words do you have to ride the side charger back to the forward position? I have no experience with them, so I'd like to know this before jumping in. Any recommendations for this type of upper(as long as they spring back)? |

I think what you are asking is: When you lock the bolt to the rear does the charging handle have its own spring to push it forward again or does it need to be pushed forward manually?
I have not seen one that has its own spring. You will either push it forward manually or allow the buffer spring and bolt carrier to push it forward upon release of bolt catch. |

Ok, that helps. I realize I asked it in a weird way, but somehow most of you answered my question.
If I rephrase it, it might sound like this; When you pull back the bolt to chamber a round, you can let it go and it will slam home with a round chambered, correct? Is this how they are all for the most part designed? I saw a video on YouTube that made it seem like this is not how they commonly are which is why I began questioning how they function. Anyway, can anyone recommend a forged 9mm sidecharging upper? I keep seeing billet, I'd prefer forged. |

NFA makes a non-reciprocating charger for themselves and Joe-Bob..
You pull it back and let it go, It slides forward with the bolt and stays there. The harder part is finding a free float forearm that wont interfere with the side charging housing. If the forearm has bosses built in that 'wrap around' the sides of the top rail to keep it aligned - it's probably going to be a prob on the charger side. |

^yea I saw nfa's, but it's billet. I honestly wouldn't even mind if it reciprocated, if that mattered.
I know exactly what you mean about the rails...the DD RIS II has ears that stick over, so I'd assume that wouldn't work. I'm looking for a pretty fat rail that will go over my subgun suppressor, so I think that will also be a limiting factor. |

I used a side charger for my 9mm PCC. Used a Matrix upper and Seekins rail. The alignment tabs on the side were a problem with fit until i cut some relief for the side charging protrusion, now it fits, works and looks fine.
This is over a QC10 3.5" barrel, Griffon 3-lug mount and either my Obsidian or my Optimus. Usually the Obsidian as I'm slightly concerned about bullet stability out of a barrel that short and the .45 bore is safer. |

Here is my left side active side charger. Works great! Totally reliable. http://i256.photobucket.com/albums/hh162/skeeljc/AR-9%20Side%20Charger/20170209_142251.jpg http://i256.photobucket.com/albums/hh162/skeeljc/AR-9%20Side%20Charger/20170209_142154.jpg http://i256.photobucket.com/albums/hh162/skeeljc/AR-9%20Side%20Charger/20170209_142144.jpg |

Very nice! Who makes that, or custom? Sidecharger uppers, including the upper in the pics, have been discussed alot over the past few months. I would go back a few pages, find a few of those threads, and then read some of them for more info. then, just go here and buy what you want when you finally decide what that is. . |
