Hey guys, new to the forum and AR platform. Looking for opinions on optic placement on the rail. I'm mounting a Vortex Strikefire (red dot) on my upper and have been getting conflicting opinions on placing it in regards to accuracy vs faster target acquisition. Currently I have it mounted on the rail fore end just forward of the upper sight rail. Flat top receiver with a high optic mount. Any opinions are welcome, thanks!

I remember running across a study by one of the Northern European countries (Sweden/Denmark, etc.) which they timed trained snipers/marksmen engaging targets with RDS mounted at the rear sight location, the front of a quad rail handguard (~ front sight location), and 2 intermediate locations. I think it was on m4c but I can't find it. Anyway, the conclusion was that the shooters performed best with the RDS at the front of the upper receiver. Perhaps someone knows about that study or can find it. It might be worth making a sticky on the optics section. |
