After zeroing with a standard battle zero, the top of my front sight post is nearly even in elevation to the "ears" of the front sight base. That is all fine and dandy, however, I would now like to zero with the RIBZ. If I understand correctly, zeroing with the RIBZ would require me to raise my front sight post, which in turn would raise the top of my front sight post above the "ears" of the front sight base (which totally defeats the purpose of the ears).
Weapon specs are as follows... 16" midlength upper F marked front sight base Detachable carry handle 6/3, compatible with F marked front sight bases I want RIBZ sighted irons, but not a front sight post that sticks up beyond the protection of the FSB ears. Posted this in the sights and optics section and haven't had any replies. What say yee? |

Yeah..... What range (meters) are you zeroing? What do you have your rear sight set to .... 6/3????? zeroed a lot of m16's and m4's and never had a front post go that high. Sorry for the slow response. Was in bed sick yesterday. Zeroed at 25 meters using the small aperature on the 6/3 setting. |

Finally where it should have been.

If it does, you should not able to turn the dial counterclockwise past 6/3. In correct RIBZ setting, the dial will turn 6 clicks counterclockwise past 6/3 and bottom out. From reading your first post it is evident that you are familiar with RIBZ, and your front sight base and carry handle are mil spec. You are correct that the front post will protrude beyond the protective ears in RIBZ setting. There's not much you can do about it. M4 was designed to sight in at 25/300, which is standard BZ (Battlesight Zero), and your rifle sights are in spec since the front post does not protrude beyond the protective ears. |

I can go 1 full click past 6/3 (6/3 -1). Not sure if there was originally a 1 click "buffer" before bottom out. After I calibrated for RIBZ and saw that my FSP was too high, I re-calibrated the rear drum (leaving a 1 click buffer) and re sighted for BZ. Like I said, not sure if there was previoulsy a 1 click buffer or not, but I dont think 1 click is enough to make the kind of difference we are talking about here. So my mil-spec equipment cannot be made to function properly for a non-spec sighting system. Interesting, I was wondering if this was the case. It really makes perfect sense. So what this has me wondering now is... Is everyone who has IBZ and RIBZ sighted irons walking around with a FSP sticking up too high or what? |

I don't know if those with RIBZ settings have front posts sticking out.
Would be nice if they would weigh in on this subject. On two of my rifles I have BUIS rears (Troy and GG&G) zeroed at 50 yards behind EOtechs, 1/3 co-witness. The front post is below the ears in both rifles. The third AR sports 4X ACOG, no BUIS. Due to 1.5" eye relief, the scope is mounted in the most rearward position leaving no room for BUIS. My Christmas present to myself LE 6920 is stock with carry handle sights. I haven't shot it yet. The weather does not cooperate. When I do go to the range, I will try RIBZ and see if the post sticks out over the ears. Maybe your milspec carry handle is out of spec, I don't know what to say. You may try commercial carry handle. It's shelf height is .040" lower than milspec. It may help with RIBZ settings. |

I may just give up on the RIBZ and throw on a red dot that is set to a 50/200. At any rate, thanks for your input, it is much appreciated. Oh and nice self given x-mas present lol, enjoy! |
