As usagold said, its the distance between your rear sight and front sight. Having a longer sight radius improves accuracy (technically). Think of it this way.... If you are at a 100 yard range and you have a sight radius of 99.9 yards it would be pretty hard to miss the bullseye :)

Sight radius has nothing to do with the accuracy of the gun.  A longer sight radius makes it easier to observe sight misalignment and correct it, so that you can shoot up to the potential of the gun.

Ah, but sight radius has a LOT to do with PRACTICAL accuracy, when using iron sights, as you pointed out. (nit-nit picking? )
