(Apologies if this thread has been beat to death, but a search of the last thirty days didn't yield any obvious answers) Why would one choose a shorter barrel (10.5 or 14.5) with a fixed brake bringing it to the legal (non SBR) length insted of a 16" barrel?Since all non-SBRs have to have a minimum barrel length of 16", why would one opt for a reduction in FPS and/or accuracy? I considered the weight factor, but I can't see the weight difference between a muzzle brake and an inch and half of barrel being that much of a decision factor. I also discount the "I'll have a short barrel if SHTF" theory because most of us don't have the skills to remove a spot welded or pinned brake. Maybe it's just the "cool" factor? Any insight would be appreciated as I try to decipher all the myriad combinations that one can put together. |
| because I was buying a posty and I wanted it configured in a way that made the banned features irrelevant. Pre or post ban a 14.5" must be made 16" or be registered. So, the threaded barrel is out for both, and the bayonet won't fit anyway. The only banned feature left is the tele-stock. I put bushy's stubby stock on it. It has coolness, it's different, and it's legal. Kinda like a diet pre-ban. All the great taste, but none of the calories. |
