Ok, so I just got this scope today and don't know much about it. I thought I had seen them on retro rifles before.

Did the military ever use them?
Are they still made?
How would I mount it?
Value?
Thanks

Cool.  They're worth about $100 without mounts.  If those are original singlepoint mounts, the value goes up tremendously.  They're so rare I have no idea.  You use them with both eyes open, the dot you see with the right eye is superimposed over the image you see with the left, or vice-versa.  Just an early Aimpoint... I like mine, I think it's fun.  You can also see them used on the Starwars Scout Blaster, and maybe some others (I'm not a Starwars expert, or fan even).  Mine is mounted on an ARMS mount, with WallyWorld rings.  I wish I could find some original mounts, I think yours may be original.  uxb would know, I think he has an original set.

Thank you very much for the info. I don't think the mounts are original. They say (weaver 1" USA).

Original Singlepoint strap mount...

UXB - those strap mounts remind me of the WWII German ZF-4 mounts. I'm wondering if there's an airsoft (the horror) reproduction of the ZF-4 straps that would look decent? Just a thought - maybe a bad one...

What era/years where these?   G.I. issue, or civilian competitor to the Armson/OEG?

Late 60s - early 70s.

Civvie production.  Tested but not adopted.

Used on the Son Tay raid as COTS purchases.

Preceeded the Armson OEGs by about 10 years.

They were on the Rebel Fleet Trooper blasters (guys with the white helmets on Leia's ship), Biker Scout Stormtrooper blaster pistols, Chewbacca's bowcaster,.............this website lists the various props Parts Of Star Wars
IIRC the gun that was designed for Alien but never seen onscreen also had a Singlepoint, mounted on the bottom of the magwell (Rexim-Favor Swiss subgun originally).

I have a few, all clear dome models.  Two earmarked for 9mm carbines, the third for a retro-ish 5.56 carbine.  Using a regular carry handle mount & rings doesn't really matter functionwise but the proper mount would be nice.

I didn't know it was so much.  All that probably served to drive the prices up.  I saw one go for a few hundred bucks on  UK eBay.

ETA: Hey Morg, I saw some of those repro ZF4 mounts going for $249 on GB.    Probably not worth modifying at that price.  You could probably fab a replica for that much...

Well I got to try it out last monday then my computer crashed. Thank you for all of the replies.
The dot is huge on the target. I think it is just as fast to get on target with irons. I was able to put most rounds in the kill zone at about 25 yards. I don't however think it will stay on my rifle.

Cool, thanks for the pics.  I'm guessing, but I'm thinking the dot on mine is about 6 MOA.  My dot is yellowish green.  Is yours orange/red?

Yeah redish orange.
It was cold taking the pics this morning. We got our first frost last night at about 28 degrees. Might be a long winter.

I believe the large orange dot was the shotgun model---the rifle model had a smaller diameter dot.

That's for a shotgun.  The rifle version has a cone in front instead of a dome.
