I personally prefer the type with the HK hook, preferrably those which have no plastic quick release buckles, like the Troy for example. Mainly so I can completely remove the sling in case I want to reattach my Tactical Taylor sling if need be (which also has HK hooks at each end). But if your MOUT sling and attachment works for you why change it? It pretty much boils down to personal preference, what you plan to use it for, and your rifle configuration. |
A couple of reasons. First because the slot-loop on the rifle has a tendency to get in the way of my fingers when operating the charging handle, and second because I'm not sure how much I trust the plastic buckle on the Mout sling. |
I like the HK snap hooks the best. C4 |
I see that you carry the CQD slings & mounts. I am very intrigued by this system, but it would cost $100 to get setup to use it properly with all the gear. What's your take on the CQD vs. the Troy? Do you have a pic of the CQD in it's entirety? The troy still has a buckle in the loop and if I'm going to switch to get rid of a perceived weakness I may as well get rid of all the buckles. I can't tell if the CQD has something similar or not. |
While the CQD is a good sling the TROY is better IMHO. I run the CQD rear sling plate and the TROY sling. The HK hooks have never poked me and I shoot this gun a lot (3 gun matches, carbine classes, etc). C4 |
| After playing around with both I decided that I like the HK loop better because it doesn't get in the way when using the chargin handle and because I like being able to easily attach and remove the entire sling. There are ways of making the normal sling look be easily detached from teh sling but you still have a small attachment left on the weapon. |
Why do you use the CQD plate if you don't need the double attachment points? |
Because it is the ONLY rear sling plate the is curved inward (rides better when against you). C4 |
So what we're seeing here is that curve? |
Yes and pictured below. I have modified this one (cut off the right side loop) and then KG coated it flat OD. C4 |

Northeast Tactical makes two different single point sling design. One is a standard webbing with an H&K type snap hook, the second is an elastic cord with a trigger snap. www.ar15.com/forums/topic.html?b=7&f=25&t=271147&page=1 |

i like my daniel defense burnsed loop for my single point sling with collapsible stock. it's smaller than the gg&g but still takes a 1 1/4 sling. i have'nt had any problem when i work the action. and i really like my boonie packer sling. the loop that goes onto the sling loop is lined on the inside w/ kevlar to keep sharp edges from cutting into the slig loop. and i paid $20ish for a brand new, made in the usa sling. emergency release buckle, lots of adjustment. very pleased with it. |
