Just wondering if your AR's were restricted to single shot only as in the UK would you still be interested in owning them.
I am just wondering what drives you is it the semi/full auto part of the weapon or the weapon itself.

Doubt most of us would bother if this was the case, although some would.

I think the major appeal of the AR15 is the "modular" aspect of the rifle. One lower w/ multiple uppers could be used for anything from CQB to 1000 yard Highpower shooting with just a swap in the upper. That and the fact that they definately have the "cool" factor going for them adds to the appeal, IMO.

If that were the case most of us would be "criminals" under a criminal law.

Many of us pride & respect the tradition of the AR, but the real appeal is the functionality of the system. In California there is legislation which bans the ARs that utilize detachable magazines. The answer was an AR with a permenant 10-shot magazine which must be loaded while disassembled. That is stretching the functionality to the limit in my opinion. If stretched too far, there is little reason to embrace the crippled AR other than for tradition's sake. I would go for a bolt action which might be more reliable and certainly more accurate if single shot was the only option

In Britian they use "bolt action" ARs by disconnecting the gas system.

The question then goes to capacity. are the Brits allowed 20 rd mags? 10? 5? single shot is (by strict interpretation) one round. That means one round mags or loading by hand (a pain in the ass for ARs).

Sorry maybe I could of worded it better when I said single shot I was refering to having to manually cycle the action after every shot.

Pulpsmack,

Yeah,
We have no magazine capacity limit here in the UK.

Yes, it don't make much sense! 30 round mags and 12" barrels are all legal in the UK!

So the .22 rimfire (we can still have semi-auto's in rimfire) converted M4 I've ordered will come with a collapsible stock, short barrel, flash hider, 30 round mag and a silencer, which would all be very illegal in some States.

vito113! now I thought guns were banned in the UK? yes or no! or is it semi-autos only?

Almost banned… but not there yet! :-)

Basically our laws are f**ked up but it come down to this…
Full auto anything - banned
All handguns - Banned
Brocock compressed air guns - Banned (some anti gun dickweeds reckon they can be converted to live - yeah right!)
All center-fire semi-autos - Banned
Semi-auto rimfire - OK
Bolt action rimfire/centre fire – OK
Mace/CS and stun guns - banned
Pump action/semi-auto shotguns over 3 round mag are classified as firearms.
But licenced firearms have no restricton on mag capacity, silencers are ok, barrels must be over 12"

Like I said… don't make sense

I don't know of any countries were guns are totally banned (I am sure there could be a few). Even in Japan its possible (though difficult) to own a firearm.

My friend, I'm living in a country were it is the the stated aim of senior politicians and senior Police chiefs to ultimately remove all firearms from private ownership… so as to make it a 'safer' place.  We live on a knife edge here, next time a nut goes and shoots someone they will probably use it as the pretext for a total ban. One guy went crazy with an AK - all semi-autos go, One guy went crazy with a handgun - all the handguns went. I reckon 10 years tops before the UK big ban.

You're right on the shotguns, after all no Prime Minister is going to tell the Queen he wants to ban the Royal Family's favourite pastime! Bang go's his Knighthood!

But a shotgun is a poor substitue for a AR…
