Somewhere is a thread with a couple of guys making singlepoint mounts using Weaver 1" ring mounts and a rail.

Can someone post the link for me.

Thanks!

This is the Quote  from DMark.......................

OK Gang, here is my take on Single Point mounting for a Retro Son Tay weapon.

Since the real Single Point mount is no where to be found (other than one lucky forum member ) I wanted something that was as low profile and as near to the look as the original.

I started with an Aimtech Weaver mount.

http://www.midwayusa.com/viewProduct/?productnumber=723373

And Weaver 1'' low mount rings.

http://www.midwayusa.com/viewProduct/?productnumber=792508#enlarge

And with a bit of Dremel work on the mount to clear the scope bell its as near to the GAU-5A/A that my old Infantry school buddy Frank Closen carried on the Raid.

All I need now is some Retro electrician tape!

I'm thinking of getting another one of the mounts and cutting it down even more and removing all of the unused weaver mounting points in order to make it as near as the Single Point mount as possible.

Later,

D. Mark

Sorry about that.  My search dog Jaeger's cancer worsened and he passed away yesterday.

I used the items DMark described.  I cut each end one rail length shorter.  I filed all the rails off the top between the mount rings then repainted it.  It looks a lot better than the first mount I was using and it only took about an hour of filing - pretty easy.  Not an exact replica, but a little closer.

Here is the first attempt mounting a red Single Point.  The above on is a green one (not that it matters, but the red is more correct.).

I'm sorry for you loss. No matter how often we try to tell ourselves that they are just dogs....or any other kind of pet, we are just lying to ourselves. Our pets become a VERY important part of our families. I had a Doberman that I got when she was 8 weeks old and I had to put her down when she was 14 years old because of cancer. I think my wife and I went 4 years before getting another dog. When you are ready for another one, all I can say is 'pet rescue adoption".

Thanks, Doc and everyone else for their condolences.

The K9 Search and Rescue group is a tight community and if the time comes for me to have another companion I'm sure he will come.

I wish he had been in this pic with me.

Sorry for the hijack...

UXB - Sorry for the loss.  I can imagine the good you two did together.  You won't be able to replace him, but best of luck to you in whatever you decide on in the future.  You probably learned a lot from him and I'm sure you will use the knowledge to continue your good work in his memory.

+200    My dog Taj has been with me since she was 5 weeks old - I had to wait to get her - she's now 15 and still runs around like a pup. When she goes I will cry like a baby and I'm not ashamed to say it. She's family. A Lot of people don't understand the connection you have. Sorry for your loss. Take care brother - oh, and I agree on the rescue thing - Taj was a rescue, and mutts are generally smarter than papered dogs...but it'll be a while before I'll be able to consider another dog after I lose her. She's doing great, knock on wood. Don't mean to add to the hijack, but maybe this is a time to suggest a 'Dogs in Vietnam' thread? Hell, dogs are being used in AG as we speak, saving lives every day. They are every bit heroes. Let's take a minute to think about our 'canine warriors' this July 4th. IIRC, Washington had wolfhounds with him at Valley Forge.

m1sniper ask me for some measurements of a Single Point so figured I'd post them here.

This is a newer green dot, but my older red dot with a clear dome has the same dimensions.

UXB or whoever modeled up the Single Point mount;
Could you e-mail me the part files? I don't have a Single Point, but if I ever get one I would like a proper mount for it.
Thanks,
Dustin

The parts I used  for the mount in the top two pictures of my earlier post were suggested by DMark and are from Midway.

The strap shown above  - the tab at one end slips through the slot at the other to make one continuous loop.  The other holes in the strap are for the screws in the cylinders that attach the straps to the mount.  As you can see in the pic below, the strap wraps around the cylinder so the strap is actually two bands thick when passing over the actual Singlepoint.

I hope this helps the whole strap-thing make a little more sense.

Does anyone know of a company that can recharge Singlepoints?  I believe Trijicon used to, but that was years ago.  I've got a clear dome red dot that's completely gone in low light.  Also, is it dangerous to mess with the insides, even if faded?

No one can recharge the tritium lamps in the Singlepoints - not even Trijicon when they were still recharging the OEGs.  It is not dangerous to mess with the insides.  The half-life of tritium is 12 years so conservatively the have gone through 2 1/2 half lives meaning they probably only have around 18.75 millicuries left, and unless the capsule is damaged the tritium will not be released.

I have wondered if someone could make a cap with an LED and a small battery to go in the tritium well that could be activated by turning the cap to an on or an off position.

Armson USA is listing in their FAQ page that they hope to be able to swap Tritium in the OEG sights in the near future. of course this is for the later Armson OEG and not to sure if this will apply to the 1st gen models as well.

First and second generation OEG lamps are interchangeable.

They have been saying "in the near future" since 2006.

I added a LED w/batt to one of my singlepoints and it helped out considerably.

Here is a photo showing the port where the tritium is contained.  It is usually covered by a plastic cap.
